Keep Calm Craft On {crafting on}

The act of creating, in one form or another, preserves my sanity amongst the chaos of life. This explains why I always have more than one project going at a time as well as why my housework tends to fall behind. I enjoy seeing what others are working on and keeping calm with, too. What are you creating? What is keeping you going? Snap a picture and share it with the rest of us by leaving your link below.

K's birthday is tomorrow. Being my usual self, I am working last minute to finish her gifts. I am almost done with a simple skirt for her. I blindfolded her yesterday to try it on. She thinks I am crazy now, but hey, I got my measurements! I decided to forgo a birthday dress this year in favor of a skirt because Purple Grandma gifted her with quite a few tops during her last visit that K didn't have anything to wear with. Plus, her birthday sweaters (yes, sweaters plural - more on that later) would go nicely with skirts. I hope to make her some more skirts for the fall and winter but just not in time for her birthday.

I did, however, finish up a something little for her over the weekend. It is a medicine pouch for her to carry her calendula salve and band aids in. This may be a small gift but I think it may be her favorite. K constantly amazes me with her sincere compassion and love of taking care of others. She holds Our Lady of Guadalupe close to her heart and loves to learn all that she can about her. One of her favorite stories is Talking Eagle and the Lady of Roses: The Story of Juan Diego and Our Lady of Guadalupe. This story mentions that young Juan Diego always wore a medicine pouch around his neck with remedies to help others in need. K decided she needed one herself so that she was always prepared to help others. In steps Lori and her pockets for Africa pattern. As simple as this pattern is, Lori had me conquer a mini fear - crocheting. Was I any good at it? Umm, no. But I did it and I know K will be excited about that. Maybe I will try to pick it up now instead of waiting for K to learn (and teach me) in 4th grade...
